This site is intended to support teachers developing approaches to enquiry-based learning.  It contains detailed descriptions of three case studies carried out in secondary and primary schools in Stoke-on-Trent, each taking the Staffordshire Hoard as a stimulus for learner-led enquiry.

The case studies are the product of a collaboration between Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Partners in Creative Learning, Stoke-on-Trent Museums, St Joseph’s College, Haywood Engineering College and Belgrave St Bartholomew’s Academy.

Collectively we set out to answer the question, ‘How can we overcome the barriers to enquiry-based learning in the classroom using the context of the Staffordshire Hoard?’  We hope that the descriptions of and the reflections on the learning experiences we created will inspire others to explore the potential of enquiry as a vehicle for deep-learning.
